Blast Fat by Mixing it Up!

Should you do cardio first and then weights or weights first and then cardio? Which is better for blasting fat and improving your fitness level? There are plenty of personal trainers out there that will tell you that one is better than the other, but we suggest that there’s a third option – Mix your cardio into your weights!

Doing cardio between sets of weighted exercises keeps your heart rate higher, which means you’re burning more calories. Some studies show that you will also be burning a higher percentage of calories from fat when you mix in the cardio.

How to Blast Fat?

There are two ways you can do this:

Method #1:  Instead of resting after a strength exercise, do 30-60 seconds of a high-intensity cardio exercise, such as jumping rope, sprinting, or high knee lifts. Move onto another strength exercise, followed by another 30-60 seconds of intense cardio. Repeat until all of your strength exercises have been completed.

Method #2: Do one set of each of your strength exercises with only 15-20 seconds of rest in between. Then do 10-15 minutes of cardio (brisk walk, run, spin, elliptical) at a moderate-high intensity. Do a second set of weights, followed by another 10-15 minutes of cardio on a different machine. Follow that with a third set of weights and a third round of cardio on yet a different machine.
